The Get-Out Play: Crushing the Super Hi-5 in the Gulfstream Finale

Alright, folks, we’ve made it to the nightcap. Race 12 at Gulfstream Park is a Maiden Special Weight for 3-year-old fillies going 7 ½ furlongs on the turf. If you’ve been grinding all day, this is the spot to get solvent. We’re targeting the $1 Super Hi-5.+2

Why this bet? Two reasons:

  1. The Carryover: There’s likely dead money in the pot from earlier misses.
  2. The Payoff: Hitting the top 5 in correct order on a turf maiden race with lightly raced horses pays like a lottery ticket. It’s hard, but that’s exactly why it pays.

Handicapping these turf maidens is a nightmare for the casuals but a goldmine for us. You’ve got first-time starters (FTS), horses switching surfaces, and varying distances. Let’s break down the ticket.

The Key: #8 Celebrity Warrior (3-1)

This is our anchor. You can’t play a Super Hi-5 without a strong key, and she is the class of the field.

  • The “Hidden” Trip: Her last race looks bad on paper (10th place), but read the fine print: she “Stumbled badly start” and was hung out 6-wide. That’s a total toss-out.
  • Back Class: Before that disaster, she ran 2nd in the Selima Stakes and even tried the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. That is massive class relief dropping into a regular maiden race.+1
  • Post Advantage: The #7 scratched? No, actually, looking at the PPs, the #7 is Morning Rise. However, the #8 draws outside the bulk of the speed. But here’s the kicker—she has the highest Prime Power (133.9) by a mile.
  • Pedigree: Sire Saxon Warrior (JPN) gets 14% turf winners , and her dam has produced 4 turf winners from 8 starters. She fits this course perfectly.+1

The Value Plays (Must use underneath)

#2 She Reigns (8-1) – The “Money” Horse This is my favorite longshot. She sold for $180k (14x her sire’s stud fee), which screams physical talent. She’s moving to turf for the first time, and her sire Complexity is clicking at 13% with turf runners. Ignore her debut on the synthetic; she’s bred to run on the green.+2

#5 Let’s Go Barbie (4-1) She put up a solid 74 speed figure on debut. Trainer Riley Mott is solid with 2nd-time starters. She showed early speed (E1 95) , and with the Speed Bias at 69% for this distance, she’s going to be forwardly placed. You need speed in the top 3 spots of your Hi-5.+3

#3 Dreaming of Joy (5-1) – The X-Factor Brad Cox trains, Javier Castellano rides. That’s a 21% win combo. She’s a first-time starter working bullets at Palm Meadows (best of 46 on Feb 13). Cox hits 26% with debut runners. If she’s live on the tote board, she hits the board.+2

The “Trap” Horse

#4 Vekoma View (9-2) She finished 2nd last time, so everyone will bet her. But she had a perfect trip—saved ground on the rail and led late. She couldn’t close the deal with a perfect setup. I’ll use her defensively underneath, but I’m trying to beat her for the win spot.+1

The Ticket Structure

We are keying the #8 on top. If she loses, we tear up the ticket, but if she wins, we want the chaos underneath to blow up the payout.

  • 1st: 8
  • 2nd: 2, 3, 5
  • 3rd: 2, 3, 4, 5
  • 4th: 2, 3, 4, 5, 12
  • 5th: 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 12

Note on #12 Amended Dreamer: Tough post (12), but she cost $285k and has hit the board in 2 of 4 starts. Good for the bottom rungs.

Good luck, and let’s take down the pool!
